Annual Wellness Exam

A Yearly Wellness Exam is Part of a Healthy Lifestyle

About Women Ob-Gyn can help you maintain a healthy lifestyle through every age and stage of your life. We customize the visit to your needs and medical history, but the visit typically includes a pelvic exam with pap test and a breast exam. If you are over age 40, we will also perform a screening for colon cancer. Depending on your age, we will evaluate the need for mammography and bone density studies. We can also answer any questions you may have, including options for contraception or hormone therapy if appropriate.

What to Expect During Your Annual Exam

During your annual exam at About Women OB/GYN, you can expect a thorough and comfortable examination. Here’s what typically happens during your visit:

  • Medical History Review

We will review your medical history, including any recent changes in your health, family history, and lifestyle factors. This is important for understanding your unique health needs.

  • Breast Exam

A clinical breast exam will be performed to check for any lumps or abnormalities in your breasts, which can help detect early signs of breast cancer or other conditions.

  • Pelvic Exam

The pelvic exam involves assessing your reproductive organs to check for any signs of infection, abnormal growths, or other conditions. During the exam, we will also evaluate the health of your cervix, uterus, and ovaries.

  • Pap Smear

If you’re due for a Pap smear (also known as a Pap test), we will collect cells from your cervix to screen for any abnormalities or signs of cervical cancer. This is an important part of your preventive care.

  • Screening for STIs

If necessary, we may recommend screening for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) to ensure your health and well-being.

  • Discussion of Contraception & Family Planning

If applicable, we’ll discuss your current contraception method or help you explore family planning options that best suit your lifestyle.

  • Preventive Care & Wellness Advice

Your provider will offer advice on maintaining a healthy lifestyle, including nutrition, exercise, and mental well-being. We may also recommend vaccinations, screenings, or other preventive care depending on your age and health history.
